February 22-23, 2014
Location: Gatineau Park
Parents are requested to carpool to the camp on Saturday morning for a 9am arrival at P19 in Gatineau Park and again for the return on Sunday. Each youth must bring their military sleeping bag, 'dino' hood and at least 2 sleeping pads.
Due to availability issues in getting a cabin on the Friday night, our venue has changed and now we'll be going to Gatineau Park. We'll meet at parking lot P19 on Saturday morning and the XC ski or snowshoe into Group Site #5 by Lac Renaud. We'll get our shelters built and spend some time wrapping up our geocaching troop speciality. We'll try a couple different ways of preparing outdoor gourmet meals and sleep in our -40C rated military sleeping bags.
- the kit list for this camp is essential, you'll need what we list as a minimum. More layers is never a bad thing.
- standing still around a fire doesn't get or keep you warm. Motion and activity is the best solution to keep your personal furnace going.
Sunday, we'll hike out and have lunch at the parking lot while waiting for pickup.
- the foam/kneeling pad is great to stand or sit on to provide an insulation layer between you and the snow.
- don't forget your stew! Scouter Peter does have some that he held for those who weren't confirmed if they were attending or not.
