Location: Rideau Canal
Paddling the northern portion of the Rideau Canal from Smiths Falls to Petrie Island.
Envision paddling down the Rideau Canal, locking down through this historic waterway as we work our way back to Ottawa.
While the overnights at the lockmaster homes will be a luxury with water and bathrooms, we'll be paddling hard each day as we work our way north. Portages will only be necessary if we encounter traffic jams at the locks. Our last day will conclude with the lockdown at Chateau Laurier, or a downhill portage. If time and the winds permit, the ideal end would be to raft up and sail down to Petrie Island. A compromise would be to conclude our journey on the Ottawa River at the Ottawa Rowing Club.
